The Ggantija Temples in Xaghra, are being opened for the first time to host a music and dance spectacle as the highlight of the Festival ItaliaMalta 2006, a week of cultural events, music and theatre in the main historical sites of the islands.
The performance at the temples of the opera Cleopatra, and dance to the music of Orpheus and Eurydice with choreography by Isadora Duncan, will take place on Saturday starting at 9pm.
The festival, featuring classical music and literary works and highlighting the Italian presence in Malta and Gozo, started yesterday and carries on until Sunday.
The spectacle is being organised by the Euro-Mediterraneo Culture dei Mari, an Italian association that promotes events and culture in the Mediterranean, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and other entities.
Tomorrow, a sacred performance in Maltese and Italian on excerpts from the Acts of the Apostles will be held at 7.30pm in the Basilica of St George in Victoria, which is also the venue for a chamber music ensemble in tribute to Luigi Boccherini on Friday at 7.30pm and another concert on Sunday at 8pm, both are part of the Victoria International Arts Festival.
A concert of sounds, words and images on the myth of Ulysses will also be held in Calypso’s Cave and at Ramla Bay on Sunday.
