“The Gozo Ministry is committed to improve the quality of life of students attending educational facilities in Gozo.”
“That is why it invests a substantial portion of its budget towards the modernisation and introduction of several facilities in all schools in Gozo,” the ministry said in a statement.
In these last seven years, upgrading works were carried out in all 18 schools in Gozo. Funds were also allocated to improve accessibility to school facilities for students with disabilities.
A curved chair-lift costing Lm6,000 was recently installed at the Kercem primary school. The chair, which can be controlled by a hand-held remote control and operated by the disabled student itself, has radically facilitated accessibility.
At the Sir Mikelang Refalo Centre for Further Studies, work to increase accessibility for disabled students was also carried out, including the installation of a lifting platform for wheelchair-bound students to have full access to the school’s public areas such as the canteen and computer laboratory. Lm7,000 had been invested in this school since January 2005, the ministry added.
