Into my Imagination - A retrospective photography exhibition by Joe Camilleri

Blue Jar Tomatoes
Heritage Malta has just inaugurated Into my Imagination, a retrospective photography exhibition by Joe Camilleri. During the inauguration of the exhibition the eighty six year old artist presented a copy of his will to Dr Mario Tabone, Chairman of Heritage Malta, in which he leaves a bequest of 140 photographs and 6,000 slides to the National Agency Heritage Malta. This collection comprises Joe's masterpieces chosen by the artist himself.

Joe Camilleri was born in Zurrieq in 1921. He started his studies in professional photography when he retired in 1982. From the very start he decided to specialise in colour photography using top of the range equipment, a degree of personal flair and a quest for creativity which helped him develop a distinctive style of photography. His work has been accepted in hundreds of exhibitions and he has won a considerable number of gold, silver and bronze medals and other trophies in some of the most renowned international competitions.

Joe Camilleri practiced solely in traditional photography notwithstanding the fact that a percentage of his work may give the impression that Joe practices digital photography he remained faithful to the use of the roll film despite the advantages digital photography would have offered in the creation of his complicated and often hazardous work involved in the creation of his compositions.

Joe said that through this gesture he wishes to keep his collection together and to set an example for others to follow.

The exhibition can be viewed free of charge at Heritage Malta's Head Office in Merchant's Street Valletta until the 22nd of June Monday to Friday from 08.00 hrs till 16.00 hrs.
