IHW.jpg On the 10th of May, Gozo will be hosting the annual workshop of language school network International House World Organisation (IHWO) after being unanimously selected as this year’s venue.

IH Malta Gozo, a small school of English situated in the picturesque village of Għarb, is an affiliate of IH and as such, other than catering to a niche market of clients, is committed to implementing high standards of quality and innovation in education and training.

Attending for this two-day workshop will be around 30 IH directors, together with 60 travel agents, whose sole purpose is to promote language teaching for the renowned language school network. Besides providing excellent exposure of IH Malta-Gozo as a school, the workshop also provides an excellent opportunity to market Gozo as a unique tourist destination.

International House World Organisation was set up in 1953 and currently boasts 130 schools in 40 countries across every continent. It is at the forefront of development in the field of language teaching and in the training of language teachers. Many of its schools teach a range of modern languages besides English and its courses are tailored to the needs of both general and business clients. It provides consultancy services in teacher training, teacher recruitment and school management in addition to the development of course materials. In fact, its staff have been involved in the writing of numerous best-selling textbooks. Most importantly International House World Organisation is about people - people learning, people teaching, people working together and people communicating.

Commenting about this initiative, the Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo welcomed this initiative and said that this could be another niche market offering Gozo another unique opportunity to be marketed as a unique and distinct destination. Moreover, Minister Debono said that due to its bi-lingual culture, Gozo has benefited in recent years through visits by young as well as mature students seeking to improve their language skills on this island whilst also finding time to enjoy the more tranquil atmosphere Gozo has to offer. Minister Debono congratulated IH Malta-Gozo for this initiative and expressed confidence that Gozo will continue to benefit from the language learning tourism market especially during the lean months of the year.

Besides the workshop, guests can also look forward to a taste of Gozo’s uniqueness through a visit to the prehistoric temples of Ggantija and the Cittadel, with its panoramic views, a taste of agro-tourism, including delectable authentic Gozitan fare as well as a visit to the Ta’ Dbieġi Crafts Village. The Malta stint will be rounded off with a short stop in Malta to visit the IH Malta junior centre and the new adult centre in Swieqi.
