The Department of Projects and Development within the Ministry for Gozo together with the Plant Health Department within the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs, organised a meeting for citrus growers in Gozo.
This meeting was held on Saturday 10th May 2008 at the Guze Micallef Hall of the Government farm in Xewkija, and several Gozitan citrus fruit growers followed a presentation delivered by agricultural officials.
This meeting was particularly aimed at increasing awareness amongst these farmers, about possible diseases which could harm orchards where citrus trees are grown. Emphasis was made upon the preventive care to be taken in order to reduce the possibilities of such diseases.
Apart from ensuring plant health, such information is very relevant to Gozo especially when one considers the fact that Gozitan farmers produce around 60% of the annual citrus fruit production which passes through the pitkali centres in Malta and Gozo.
