In July 2008 compared with June 2008, seasonally adjusted industrial production fell by 0.3% in both the euro area (EA15) and the EU27. In June production decreased by 0.2% in both zones. In July 2008 compared with July 2007, industrial production declined by 1.7% in the euro area and by 1.3% in the EU27. These estimates are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities.
Monthly comparison In July 2008 compared with June 2008, production of energy increased by 0.2% in the euro area, but fell by 0.3% in the EU27.
In both zones, intermediate goods and non-durable consumer goods declined by 0.3%. Capital goods decreased by 0.8% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods fell by 0.9% and 0.4% respectively.
In July 2008, among the Member States for which data is available, industrial production rose in eleven and fell in ten. The largest increases were registered in Portugal (+2.1%), Spain (+2.0%) and Denmark (+1.7%). The highest falls were registered in Slovenia (-5.4%), the Netherlands (-2.2%) and Romania (-2.0%).
Annual comparison In July 2008 compared with July 2007, production of energy decreased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 1.1% in the EU27. Capital goods declined by 1.1% and 0.1% respectively. Non-durable consumer goods fell by 1.5% in both zones. Intermediate goods decreased by 2.3% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU27. Durable consumer goods fell by 5.7% and 4.0% respectively.
In July 2008, among the Member States for which data is available, industrial production rose in eight and fell in thirteen. The highest increases were registered in Lithuania and Poland (both +3.7%) and Romania (+3.0%), while the largest falls were recorded in Latvia (-6.9%), Estonia (-5.2%) and Slovenia (-4.6%).
Note: There was no specific data for Malta available in this Eurostat release.
