Provisional estimates show that, when comparing February 2008 to the corresponding month last year, the industrial producer price index of the sampled enterprises dropped by 3.8 per cent.
Monthly changes - In February 2008, compared with the previous month, producer prices in total industry declined marginally. This was primarily due to a decrease in prices for those enterprises trading with other euro area countries. Within the domestic market, prices in the energy sector remained unchanged. In both the domestic and non-domestic markets, intermediate goods also declined.
Annual changes - In February 2008, compared with February 2007, producer prices in total industry also declined. This decrease is attributable to the export-oriented enterprises. Prices edged up in the domestic market.
