In September, the Retail Price Index rose by 1.11 per cent over the previous month. This primarily reflected an increase of 9.82 per cent in the Clothing and Footwear Index, mainly due to the introduction of the winter stock in the market.
A 2.77 per cent increase was registered in the Food Index, mainly on account of higher prices of fish, vegetables, fresh bread, fruit and cheese.
The Recreation and Culture Index went up by 0.66 per cent, mainly as a result of higher prices of stationery goods.
Higher prices of non-alcoholic beverages were the main factor behind a 0.49 per cent rise in the Beverages and Tobacco Index.
An increase of 0.20 per cent in the Personal Care and Health Index was due to a price rise in hairdressing and personal grooming services.
The Housing Index went up by 0.18 per cent due to an increase in prices of plastering and cement-rendering services.
The Household Equipment and House Maintenance Cost Index registered an increase of 0.14 per cent as a result of higher prices of household textiles.
A drop of 1.06 per cent was registered in the Transport and Communications Index, mainly on account of price decreases in air fares.
The Water and Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels Index decreased by 0.13 per cent. This was brought about by a drop in the price of kerosene.
In September, the twelve-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 0.81 per cent, whereas the annual rate stood at 1.83 per cent.
