The Imperial Gozo Yacht Club held its first yacht racing event of the year on Saturday 22nd March. This was a team race between the IGYC and the Vikings Sailing Club from Malta, with each team participating with three yachts. The course started just outside Mgarr Harbour and then proceeded around Comino and back.
The race was won by the Vikings team who have agreed to hold this event annually as a challenge event. The event called The Barbarossa Cup was sponsored by Frankie and Chris Magro of Barbarossa Excursions who presented the trophy to the winning team at the IGYC clubhouse at Mgarr. Barbarossa Excursions provide a variety of boat excursions and jeep safaris, details of which can be accessed on www.barbarossa-excursions.com....
The Imperial Gozo Yacht Club will be holding further race events and regattas during the course of the year, continuing its efforts to raise the profile of yachting and power boating in Gozo. Information about the Club can be accessed on www.igyc.info....
