Following another meeting between the General Workers Union and the Ministry of Health, the GWU has called for a further two and a half weeks of industrial action. The industrial action is set to continue until at least August 27th as GWU officials will not be available to attend meetings with the government as they will be abroad.
The strike, which commenced on August 3rd, was originally suspended earlier on Friday after the GWU said it had reached an agreement with the Health Division. However the Health Division said later on Friday that it had not reached any agreement prior to the suspension of industrial action.
The industrial action involves the majority of 900 nursing aides, health assistants, care workers and assistant care workers in all Maltese and Gozitan hospitals and health centres, and affects 3,000 patients.
