Heritage Malta’s next heritage trail will focus on Gozo and its folklore. The trail, entitled “The Gran Castello Experience,” will be held on Wednesday evening and will focus on the Citadel and its history. An exhibition of recently acquired Gozitan ethnographic artefacts will also be inaugurated.
Participants will be round the Citadel’s fortifications and three actors wil also enact the legend of the finding of a golden calf on the hills of Ta’ Gelmus, the story of Bernardo D’Opuo and the 1551 siege, and La Vallette’s imprisonment in Gozo. This trail is the sixth in Heritage Malta’s series of thematic heritage trails introduced earlier this year.
Heritage Malta will also inaugurate an exhibition of recently acquired traditional objects such as kitchen utensils and agricultural tools at the Heritage Malta Gozo Area Office. All artefacts were obtained from Gozo and are therefore clear evidence of the island’s rural history. The exhibition will be open till August.
After the trail, one can also enjoy two poetry sessions of poetry on Gozo as well as a tasty barbecue.
A maximum of 100 people are allowed to take part in this event. Tickets cost Lm6 for adults and Lm4 for children under 12 years old, including the barbecue and a drink.
Bookings can be made at the Heritage Malta Head Office, telephone 22954312, or at the Gozo Area Office, telephone 21564188. The event starts at Gozo’s office in St Martin’s Quarter, the Citadel, at 7.15 p.m. and ends at 10.30.
