The General Workers Union has urged the government to conclude discussions with public entities and settle outstanding issues which affect over 3,000 government workers. Issues are still pending with Enemalta, AirMalta and the health sector, the union said. The union said it hopes that the government will not use issues that concern these workers livelihood and families to create industrial strains with the union so as to gain political mileage on the eve of the general election.
Among the pending issues that GWU lists are the premiums for nursing aides, health assistants, care workers and assistant care workers. In the case of the Enemalta employees, the collective agreement needs to be concluded justly whilst talks on a collective agreement at Air Malta still had to find a just solution and be concluded.
