Three years have passed since Dr. Mario Saliba published his first edition of the 'Guide to Country Walks in Nadur', his book was sold out within a few months of its publication.
Since then, Dr. Saliba didn't find the time to retrace his footsteps and prepare a new issue. Recently though he decided that he must spare some time to prepare a new edition for 2007.
In such a short span of time Dr. Saliba has noted a number of changes, including the rehabilitation of the quarry at iI-Qortin, the completion of the restoration works on Ta' Sopu Tower, new belvederes and monuments, the surfacing of roads, the opening of a new pharmacy, the building of a modern cattle farm at Ramla, the closing of one of the restaurants and the opening of a new one.
He has also had to re-route one of the walks, as the original path was closed off by third parties who are claiming that the pathway is private property.
According to the author, his book is a small contribution to promote eco-tourism in Gozo. "Gozo still offers the visitor an opportunity to enjoy a beautiful, unspoilt natural environment, away from everyday routine, tensions and pressures and can satisfy both their physical and spiritual needs".
Nadur is renowned for its valleys, cliffs, beaches and garigue together with its monumental church, historical towers and lavish agriculture. The scope of the booklet is to help the visitor to discover parts of Nadur which are not that familiar to foreigners and Maltese alike.
This new edition has been completely updated and new photographs are included. Dr. Saliba hopes that people who read his book will find some time in the future to visit Nadur and see for themselves its natural beauty and enjoy the peace and tranquility of its countryside.
