The Gozo Tourism Association and the Gozo Business Chamber would like to express their approval of the news that as from 2009 Malta will have the chance to appoint another Maltese to the European Parliament. It is the wish of both the GTA and the GBC that the authorities consider giving the opportunity for this extra MEP to be elected from the region of Gozo.
As things stand, although Gozo is one third the size of the geographical area of Malta, it is only around 8% of the total population of the Maltese Islands, therefore making it very difficult for a Gozitan to ever make it to the European Parliament. An extra MEP elected from Gozo would ensure that Gozo's needs and problems could be fully addressed in the European Parliament.
