Graduation Day for Fifth formers at G F Agius de Soldanis School for Girls Secondary School

Graduation Day at GF Agius de Soldanis
The 5th of June was 'Graduation Day' for around 170 young students who this year attended their last scholastic year at the G F Agius de Soldanis Girls' Secondary School and Junior Lyceum. A special ceremony started with a thanksgiving mass celebrated by his Lordship, Mgr Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo. During his sermon, Bishop Grech stressed the importance of moral values and how the girls present should treasure and promote these values within society. The students animated mass with appropriate hymns whilst some of them participated by reading lessons from the scriptures and prayers of the faithful.

The Principal of the Gozo College, Chev. Frank Gatt, initiated the 'Graduation Ceremony' by addressing those present, in particular the young girls who will be leaving the school. His advice focused on ways how these girls may handle future challenges, which, as he said, may best be surpassed through pro-activity, responsibility, and solidarity. Most of all the students must strive to be interesting and persistent to achieve their goals.

The representatives of the students, Claire Caruana and Maria Xerri, delivered speeches mostly related to their experiences at G F Agius de Soldanis School. They also thanked past and present Heads of School as well as teachers and other staff for their continuous support.

Before introducing the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, who was also present for the occasion, the head of school Ms M'Assunta Attard encouraged the girls to take control of their lives by moulding their decisions on traditional values. She ended her advise by adding, 'Spice your lives with music, art, drama and voluntary work'.

Minister Debono expressed her satisfaction at joining this activity, while urging all the students to continue in their studies and avail themselves of the various opportunities which they have in this regard, even on Gozo. The Minister commented upon the increase of Gozitan students who choose to further their studies at tertiary level through University, MCAST and other Institutes.

The Minister and head of school then presented students with certificates and various book prizes, which also included the fourth issue of the school's annual magazine, De Soldanis.

The ceremony ended with a collective prayer signifying the students' gratitude to the Lord for His guidance throughout the years they spent at the G F Agius de Soldanis Girls' Secondary School in Gozo.
