The Gozo Sports Complex in Victoria is currently undergoing refurbishment and upgrading works, including the setting-up of a new reception area with modern furniture and surroundings, the transfer and modernisation of offices from the lower floor to the main entrance, the upgrading of first floor sanitary facilities as well as the setting up of indoor climbing facilities for public use.
The works are being carried out to modernise the complex and improve services offered whilst at the same time, making maximum use of existing resources.
Other than having created a friendlier and safer environment, these upgrading works, together with earlier works on the changing rooms, electricity, storage rooms and parquet flooring, also serve to encourage the public to make use of the Sports Complex facilities more often. Once these works are concluded, a second phase will then consist of works on the lower floor, including the refurbishment of the sanitary facilities, maintenance works on the roof of the main sports hall and the modernisation of the gym area.
Visiting works in progress this morning, the Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo said that the refurbishment works currently underway at the Gozo Sports Complex are intended towards improving the quality of the service offered to the general public by yet another Governmental department on Gozo. Minister Debono referred to the Ministry for Gozo’s commitment in providing quality services to the public and reminded that Government will be adding on to the sport facilities currently on offer on Gozo with a new 7-a-side football pitch adjacent to the Sports Complex, in the new school that will be built on the site presently occupied by the boys’ secondary school.
Besides being the only large and enclosed space that serves as a venue for social, cultural and commercial events in Gozo, the Sports Complex is also regularly used by schools to hold school-related events, as well as the annual children’s Carnival in February and Skola Sport. This year Skola Sport entered into its eight consecutive season, offering fifteen different sports disciplines to a record number of students, introducing two new disciplines, namely Indoor Climbing and Spirit Combat.
