The Gozo SPCA has made an urgent appeal to the public to stop inhumanely dumping puppies and kittens, after being recently inundated with numerous abandoned newborns.
On Monday alone, the SPCA received 20 abandoned kittens and puppies in just 10 hours. The kittens were found in various areas, including Ta’ Pinu, Qala, and outside the SPCA premises itself. A box with a number of newborn puppies was also found abandoned in a public garden.
“During the previous weeks, we received kittens which were found near recycling bins, in skips, and worst of all, put out in sacks for the garbage truck, to die an agonising death in the jaws of the compactor,” explained the Gozo SPCA, “this callous disregard for life is appalling. How can anyone be so cold hearted and indifferent to the suffering of these poor animals?”
When newborn kittens are taken away from their nursing mothers, they suffer too, the SPCA said. “Kittens are snatched from their mothers even before their eyes are open, causing endless searching for their offspring and the discomfort and health risks of mothers in full lactation with no kittens to suckle.”
The SPCA urged pet owners to neuter their cats and dogs if they do not wish to have kittens or puppies. The organisation explained it even offers help to those who wish to neuter their pets. In addition, whenever the SPCA re-homes an abandoned pet, they are neutered. “Anyone who thinks it is unnatural to neuter animals should certainly realise it is even more unnatural to throw unwanted babies in the garbage.”
Anybody requiring information about the SPCA’s assisted neutering service may telephone 21553769 or email info@spca-gozo.org
Further information can also be found on the SPCA website at http://www.spca-gozo.org/.

It just shows what a Low Mentality some people have, and these are supposed to be the goodies who go to their church and pray to Allah or their god who ever he might be to ask for forgiveness and make them good citizens, what a load of hypocrites.
Surely these animals great and small are God’s creatures too YES or NO?? All is needed is to take them to an animal sanctuary or have them neutered, or is it a question of greed and money?
This doesen’t happen in the UK as we have got rather effective laws regarding cruelity to animals. Just think and use your brain before such action, it might be your password to your heaven and not to a rubbish dump.
Disgusted tourists from the United Kingdom.

Well said, I couldn’t have said it any better. Some of these so called humans in the southern part of europe just haven’t got a clue. LOW Mentality says it all

Thanks for describing the Maltese and Gozitans in a nutshell, I’m sure they don’t all agree with your description of these immortals, but a minority who are guilty as charged know exactly who the culprits are.
Lets hope that when they kick the bucket they too will end up in a rubbish dump. Bl**dy good job too.
Also a disappointed and disgusted tourist from the Channel Islands.
