The final Grand Defile' on Tuesday evening provided the last grotesque and hilarious notes bringing to an end the Gozo Regional Carnival 2008 programme of events initiated on January 25. This year's carnival activities were extended over twelve days which included two consecutive weekends, thus providing added attractions for a record number of visitors to cross over to Gozo from the mainland.
The initiative to extend the Gozo Regional Carnival was first taken by the Gozo Cultural Council within the Ministry for Gozo in 2006, to enable the restructuring of the Carnival organised programme so that activities held in different villages around Gozo could be better followed.
The organised activities in Independence Square attracted audiences during both weekends whilst other spontaneous and organised activities were held by Local Councils in various other localities amongst which Nadur, Xaghra, Ghajnsielem, Kercem, Xewkija, San Lawrenz, Munxar, Qala, Gharb and Sannat. All were followed by numerous locals and visitors alike.
Many Maltese availed themselves of the opportunity to pass a few days in the relaxing Gozitan atmosphere which was also supported by the weather that collaborated with the efforts of organisers and participants allowing full enjoyment of all events throughout these days.
