Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono has responded to the accusations made by the leader of the opposition, Dr. Alfred Sant.
In a statement just issued, The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, states that Dr Sant was incorrect in saying that she was protecting ministry officials, on the contrary the ministry itself initiated the police investigations with regards to the allegations in question. This shows, said the minister, the transparency by which the ministry is operating.
Minister Debono also said that the leader of the opposition is mistaken in his statement that Mario Camilleri is employed and therefore falls under the payroll of the private secretariat of the ministry . The person in question is in fact employed by the department for projects and development within the Ministry of Gozo. For this reason Minister Debono confirms what she said in parliament during the session of the 18th of July and by means of a statement on the 5th of August.
The Ministry of Gozo declared that it is acting transparently and according to the disciplinary regulations of the Public Services Commission and the laws of Malta. Minister Debono concluded her statement by saying that a responsible politician would never interfere with the investigations of a pending case especially as a means of political propaganda.
