A hairdressing marathon will be held at the Gozo Sports Complex between Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of September with activities taking place from 9am to 10.30pm.
Around 50 students who attend the Agius De Soldanis girls' secondary School and another 33 students who frequent the girls' secondary school at the Bishop's Conservatory in Victoria will participate in this event, which is the first of its kind to be held in Gozo. The Ministry for Gozo is supporting the organisation of this event.
These students will assist qualified hairdressers who will be offering discounted services to visitors in a bid to raise funds to finance a pilot project currently underway with the support of HABIA. This project aims towards giving high standard training to Gozitan hairdressers. In fact, two qualified hairdressers established in Gozo held hairdressing classes for students during the last ten weeks as part of a specialised programme. The programme will lead these two hairdressers to the acquisition of recognition as International Qualified Assessors, thus also enabling them to be qualified hairdresser trainers. Funds collected during this marathon will be used by these respective schools to acquire relative equipment.
Activities during the weekend will see these students involved in hands-on training sessions together with their trainers and other qualified hairdressers. The results of their efforts will be duly celebrated in a hair show which will bring activities to their end on each day. Entertainment by various Gozitan and Maltese artistes will be provided for the enjoyment of all those who attend.
