Gozo Channel registers a profit of Lm282,000

Gozo Channel Ferries registered Lm282,000 in profit for the financial year ending September 2006. The company's profit has increased by 3% over that of 2005.
During a press conference given by Minister for Investment, Industry and information Technology Austin Gatt and Gozo Channel Chairman Joe Borg it was also announced that the company's ferries have made a total of 19,209 voyages during the same period, which is 2.2% more than the previous year.
Minister Gatt added that the number of passengers carried last year remained at the same level as that of 2006 at just over 3.5 million and the total number of vehicles transported between the two islands was 937,138.
Gozo Channel registered consecutive losses for a number of years up until 2005 when the company was reformed. The company's worst year was 2003 when it lost Lm988,554. In 2004 the losses were lowered to Lm10, 046 and in 2005 the company made a profit of Lm273,150.
