The Gozo Business Chamber has welcomed MEP David Casa’s speech at the European Parliament over state aid to industries in a region facing certain disadvantages.
The chamber feels that since the double insularity problem of Gozo is of a permanent nature, then state aid should continue to be given to the island’s industries. It said it was imperative that the government committed itself on this aid, especially when it came to transport subsidies.
Mr Casa last month made a case for Gozitan industries in Parliament, saying that although he agrees that state aid should be reduced to a minimum, companies considered disadvantaged due to their location should get the necessary help.
He was speaking during a debate on new regulations to cut state aid.
