Industrial action is being taken from today by nursing aides, health assistants, care workers and assistant care workers in all hospitals and health centres.
The General Workers Union has said that the action is being taken because it has failed to reach an agreement with the Health Division and the Office of the Prime Minister over various pending issues regarding its members jobs.
Addressing a press conference late this afternoon, Minister for Health, the Elderly and Community Care Louis Deguara said that the industrial actions cover almost 900 employees and are widely affecting the health services.
The Minister also appealed for the relatives of patients to assist nurses during their visits, in order that suffering may be minimised for the patients. It is estimated that around 3,000 patients are being affected by these industrial actions.
