A foreigner visiting Dwerja has been struck and killed by a giant wave. The accident occurred earlier this afternoon as the foreigner, who was believed to be in his twenties, was taking photographs with his girlfriend on the rocks.
Police and ambulance personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene but the young man was tragically pronounced dead on their arrival.

Why did I as a foreigner sitting outside the cafe that lunchtime see an accident just waiting to happen? The waves were huge and the rocks slippy but there was no warning sign at that level to warn people.
Even as the man lay there other people were still walking out, taking photos, not realising the nature of the incident. It is an image I will remember for a long time.
Our tour guide had warned us that day how bad the sea was, we were told if we wanted amazing photos she would escort us to a safe area. We stayed near the cafe area. The waves were mesmerising, we & others were there taking photos but were not aware at the time of the accident. We only became aware too late.
Our condolences to his family & friends.
