The funeral of Fr Joe Galea, pastor of the Santissima Trinita’ parish in the Italian diocese of Turin, will be held at 4pm today, at the Sacred Heart Parish, in his home village of Fontana.
Fr Galea’s body was flown to Malta this morning accompanied by many of his beloved flock from Turin, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech was on hand to bless Fr Galea’s coffin as it was taken from the plane.
Fr Galea passed away last Thursday after a relatively short illness. His family were present at his bedside as well as the bishop of Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech, who flew to Turin together with Mgr Salv Borg, archpriest emeritus of St George’s Basilica.
A long-time pastor in the Italian diocese of Turin, “Don Joe” was greatly loved by his parishioners and enjoyed the respect of the local church authorities as well many influential “Torinesi”, including world famous footballers.
