The Infrastructure Ministry announced this afternoon, that as from today, the power surcharge will be raised to 95% from 50%, which it has been at for the last eight months.
According to the government’s own calculations, they say that 82 per cent of households will see their bills rise by between €16 and €250 annually.
The government also said that the energy benefit currently received by those on a low income and the capping on the surcharge received by industry and hotels will be retained unchanged.
New electricity tarriffs will come into force in October or November and will be discussed with the social partners.
