The Health Department will be providing family doctors with the influenza vaccine to be given privately to patients who are entitled to the free vaccination.
An agreement has been reached between the Health Department and the Family Doctor’s Association with the aim to maximize the success of the annual campaign on vaccination against the influenza virus.
Spokesperson for the Family Doctor’s Association, Martin Borg said that persons over 55 years old who would like to be given the vaccine by their family doctor will not be charged for the vaccine itself but will only pay for the doctor’s professional service.
The vaccine will be offered free of charge to persons aged 55 and over and also persons suffering from chronic lung, heart, liver and kidney complaints as well as diabetes.
Anyone wishing to be vaccinated has to book in advance through his doctor by the end of September. This year’s vaccination is expected to be given during the third week of October.
