The Federation for Hunting and Conservation has condemned the incident on Monday, in which a Foresta 2000 ranger was shot and has urged the authorities to bring the criminal to justice.
The FKNK said it condemns such criminal acts outright, where a person is intentionally shot at, as is being reported. The Federation added that it also similarly condemns hunting accidents where a person is unintentionally hit and the person responsible for firing the gun flees from the scene of the incident. "Such a person is not worthy of the title of 'hunter'. A responsible hunter would have helped with any injuries and assisted any third party whom he may have accidentally hit whilst hunting," the FKNK said.
The Federation also urged any hunter that might have been involved in the incident to take responsibility and immediately report the incident to the nearest police station.
Reacting to the comments made by BirdLife (Malta) president Joe Mangion, the FKNK was critical of the 'unsubstantiated outbursts' that were 'clearly directed at hunters', adding that such comments will not help.
