The first estimate for the second quarter of 2008 indicates a EU27 current account deficit of 36.3 bn euro and a 17.4 bn euro surplus on trade in services.
The EU27 external current account recorded a deficit of 36.3 billion euro in the second quarter of 2008, compared with a deficit of 18.1 bn in the second quarter of 2007 and a deficit of 26.5 bn in the first quarter of 2008.
In the second quarter of 2008, the EU27 external balance of trade in services recorded a surplus of 17.4 bn euro, compared with a surplus of 24.5 bn in the second quarter of 2007 and a surplus of 17.4 bn in the first quarter of 2008.
This provisional data, issued by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, will be subject to revision.
