Din l-Art Helwa has announced details of its new cycle of monthly environmental and heritage presentations which begin this month.
The opening presentation, on Thursday the 11th of October, is the challenge laid out to government by Martin Scicluna with his study on the effects of climate change on the islands social and environmental status. 'Malta's Sustainable Development and Climate Change: Complacency or Confronting the Challenges' by Martin Scicluna.
This will be followed, on Thursday the 8th of November, with a presentation on 'Deities, ritual and the Sea in the Maltese Islands' by Dr. Timmy Gambin.
On Thursday the 6th of December, Dennis Vella will lecture on 'Antonio Sciortino and His Influences'.
A lecture by Adrian Strickland on Thursday the 10th of January 2008 will cover 'The Camino from Lourdes to Compostela'.
Anton Grech discusses 'Maltese Contemporary Art' on Thursday the 14th of February 2008.
Thursday the 13th of March 2008, 'Language, Religion and Politics: Australian Press Perspectives of Lord Strickland's Malta' will be the lecture by Professor Henry Frendo.
On Thursday the 10th of April 2008 a lecture by Dr. John Sciberras will be given.
On Thursday the 8th of May 2008, 'Malta in Foreign Fiction' will be presented by Dr. Paul Xuereb.
The concluding lecture in the 2007/2008 cycle will be that on Thursday the 12th of June 2008, 'The Roots of the Maltese Latin Christian Identity' by Professor Mario Buhagiar.
Each lecture will begin at 6.00pm at the Judge Maurice Caruana Curran lecture hall, at 133 Melita Street, Valletta, participants are asked to be seated by 17.45. Lectures are given in English and admission is free of charge. Donations to Din l-Art Helwa's many restoration projects will be much appreciated.
