Alternattiva Demokratika Gozo Regional Committee has applauded the recent announcement by the Environment Minister, stating unequivocally that no further development would be allowed in the area of Ta? Cenc overlooking M?arr ix-Xini.
"Banning the construction of these 57 villas is most welcome."
"Finally, the Minister has heeded the calls of Alternattiva Demokratika, all the environmental NGOs, many Gozitans and other citizens to recognise the conditions set out in Structure Plan (1992) as well as the Gozo and Comino Local Plan (2002)" stated Victor Galea, AD Gozo Regional Committee Spokesperson.
"Could the Minister now finally fulfil his remit and stop once and for all the other proposed developments at Ta? Cenc?" asked Mr Galea.
"The new three stories hotel and the 49 bungalows which are too close to the ridge overlooking Xewkija are equally contrary to the specifications of the two plans. Besides, the Structural Plan calls for a National Park and not a heritage park. A ?National Park? in the hand of a ?private speculator? is a contradiction in terms? remarked Mr. Galea.
