Referring to a Press Statement by Enemalta regarding Malta's power plants lack of compliance with EU Directives regarding emissions, AD environment and energy spokesperson Ralph Cassar said: "AD has nothing to add to its previous statement and stands by its previous comments."
"Rather than replying to AD, Enemalta and the government should reply to the European Commission, who are of a different opinion to that of Enemalta, and they should bring Malta's power plants completely into line with the EU directives for the benefit of all Maltese citizens."
AD reiterates that both Marsa Power Station and Delimara Power Station had to be in line with the requirements of the EU Directives by 1st May 2004. The only exception being the dust levels from Delimara Power Station. Enemalta's 'reply' confirms that both plants are still not in line with these requirements.
Enemalta is trying to deceive the public by mentioning that it is doing monitoring. The directive requires continuous emissions monitoring. This is NOT being done as confirmed by the EU Commission. Enemalta's and the governments dragging of feet will lead to yet another infringement procedure against Malta.
AD Chairperson Dr. Harry Vassallo concluded: "Excuses and trying to justify Enemalta's half measures will not protect people's health."
