The emergency bus service organised by the government had to be suspended today because the AFM drivers were threatened, keys stolen and vans damaged.
Transport Minister Austin Gatt has now called on the Association of Public Transport to offer emergency services.
Dr Gatt said he felt that it was immoral that the transport sector, which enjoyed a monopoly, had not been the one to come up with the idea of an emergency service in the first place.
"Now that the government is being prevented, through violence, from offering this service, I believe that it would be a great failing on your side if you were not to start offering this service of your own will," he said.
