EasyJet and Vueling operated their first scheduled flights to Malta from London Gatwick and Madrid respectively on Sunday.
Consequent to the take-over of GB Airways by EasyJet, the airline has retained the operations of the London Gatwick and Manchester routes. EasyJet will operate a weekly flight to London Gatwick and three flights per week to Manchester, and as from end May it will increase the frequencies to ten flights and seven flights per week, respectively.
British Airways, who used to operate the Malta routes through GB Airways, have decided to retain the London Gatwick route and is now operating a daily flight with its own aircraft.
Vueling is the second new airline within the space of a few hours to commence a scheduled operation to Malta with three flights per week from Madrid. Vueling's flights from the Spanish capital will further increase the connectivity to Spain in addition to Ryanair's flights from Girona and Valencia and Clickair's service from Barcelona.
