The Leader of the Malta Labour Party, Dr. Alfred Sant, underwent major surgery at Mater Dei Hospital this morning, his condition is described as stable. The medical team was led by Professor Anthony Zammit. The operation started at around 8.30am and lasted approximately three hours.
Professor Zammit described the surgery as a ‘major operation’ and said that the procedure went as expected, with no complications.
Professor Zammit added that Dr Sant is expected to stay in hospital for ten days to recuperate. He emphasised that he needs absolute rest, with no visitors allowed.
