Dr Alfred Sant has resigned his leadership of the Malta Labour Party with immediate effect. The resignation was announced at the Labour Party headquarters in Hamrun late this morning.
Dr Sant said that whilst his decision is irrevocable he will always be loyal and faithful to the Malta Labour Party and the values it upholds.
Commenting on the election defeat, he said that throughout the campaign the Labour party had underestimated the Nationalists power of incumbency. “We did not give enough importance to it.” Dr Sant said.
He added that for the time being he will be continuing to serve as a member of parliament.
