A 33yr old German diver was rescued from rough seas in Xlendi this afternoon after encountering difficulties whilst diving. The man was diving with a group of divers under the Xlendi Tower and rough seas caused by force six winds separated him from the rest of the group.
A search for the man by the Civil Protection Department took over an hour. The man managed to clamber onto some rocks in the vicinity until members of the Civil Protection Department reached him and brought him back to shore on a dinghy.
Members of the Armed Forces of Malta also arrived on location with a helicopter but an air rescue was not necessary.
Police and a paramedic team from Gozo General Hospital were dispatched to Xlendi Tower to assist the man.
The man was treated for shock on location but did not require hospital treatment.
