Xaghra local council has issued a statement urging the Mepa Appeals Board, which is meeting on Friday, to dismiss the appeal concerning the proposed development at the former Ulysses Lodge site, at Ramla Bay "and to preserve this site of unique touristic and natural value".
"The Ramla Bay and valley is a site of extraordinary beauty which must be enjoyed by future generations in its natural state. Therefore, the board must consider the global impact of the proposed development and reject it on legal and moral grounds," the statement said.
It also urged the Prime Minister to take all the necessary measures needed to turn Gozo into an eco-island.
Last October the Mepa board revoked the permit for a tourist complex on the site after their legal office found inaccuracies in the ownership declarations submitted with the applications, a decision which was widely welcomed by the environmental NGOs.
