The next political bureau meeting of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions will be held in Gozo in the first week of May.
Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, as vice-president of the CPMR, has offered to host the next session of the political bureau meeting.
Around 60 participants representing different peripheral and maritime regions are expected to attend.
The Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions was set up in 1973 comprising of around 30 regions. Today, more than 150 regions from 27 European countries make up the CPMR.
The CPMR regions have been working together for 30 years to develop the peripheral areas across Europe. In its dealings with national governments and EU institutions, the CPMR targets its action towards ensuring the needs and interests of these territories are taken into account, especially in respect of policies with a high territorial impact, e.g. EU regional policy, sustainable development, transport, agriculture, fisheries and research.
The CPMR is divided in six geographical commissions including the Islands? Commission and the Inter-Mediterranean Commission, of which Gozo is an active member.
