Children under the age of sixteen will be entitled to receive the influenza vaccine free of charge from local Health Centres as of this coming Monday, the 26th of November. This entitlement has been granted by the Health Division which started a new pilot project for the first time this year.
Seasonal influenza is a very contagious illness caused by viruses, symptoms include, high fever, muscle pains, sore throat, cough and general weakness. In very young children, it can also lead to complications such as pneumonia, septicaemia and encephalitis.
The Health Division also reminded parents to take their childrens vaccination record with them when they visit the Health Centres to obtain the vaccination.
