The European Parliament Petitions Committee has asked the European Commission what measures it plans to take to convince the Maltese Government to declare the hunting of wild birds as illegal.
The matter is to be debated on Tuesday and then a vote will be taken regarding the issue on Thursday.
It was announced last week that the hunting of turtle-doves and quail will be allowed between the 10th of April and the 20th of May. Trapping of the same species will also be allowed between the 26th of March and the 20th of May.
However, the trapping of finches and the shooting of ducks from sea craft will not be allowed after the Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment, George Pullicino, backed the Ornis Committee's recommendations last week.
