The Budget for 2008 will see an increase of Lm1.5 million of funds to be invested in Gozo. Lm40,000 is to be provided to fund social activities in Gozo. EU funds totalling Lm36.5 million (Euro85 million) will be invested in Gozo.
The Employment and Training Commission will be introducing new schemes for people seeking work in Gozo and part of the governments administration is also to be transferred to Gozo to provide more jobs.
A new school for boys is to be built at Xewkija and there will be a rehabilitation program of public gardens and also the Qortin landfill.
There is also to be a seven-year project to restore fortifications at the Citadel in Victoria and a facility for cruise liners in Xlendi Bay.
LM250,000 is to be provided for afforestation, valley rehabilitation and other environmental initiatives which will also create 50 new jobs.
Some of the main budget changes nationally are:

Income tax is reduced

Increased childrens allowance which is to be paid to all parents

Increased allowance for persons with disabilities

Interest subsidies on house loans are to be given to first-time buyers
