Bank of Valletta's Chief Executive Officer, Tonio Depasquale, announced yesterday that BOV will remain the main sponsor of football in Malta for the next three seasons. He was addressing the media following the signing of an agreement between Bank of Valletta and the Malta Football Association through which the Bank is being recognized as the Official Sponsor of the National League as well as the Super Cup up to the 2010/2011 season.
The agreement was signed by Tonio Depasquale, Chief Executive Officer and Igino Xuereb, Chief Officer Operations, on behalf of Bank of Valletta and Dr Joe Mifsud, President, and Alex Manfre, Treasurer, on behalf of the Malta Football Association.
"Three years ago we started off a relationship with the MFA directed at promoting football which is, undoubtedly, the most popular sport in Malta. We have made a major contribution towards the successful organization of the BOV National League, which was divided into four divisions, the most important of which being the BOV Premier League, and the BOV Super Cup over the past three seasons. Today we are delighted to be looking ahead at another three seasons during which Bank of Valletta will continue to position itself as the main sponsor of sport in Malta," said Mr. Depasquale. "We believe that through our sponsorship we are contributing directly towards the development of sport talent in our country and we are encouraged to note that football continues to attract new talent and to provide a healthy and entertaining environment for all fans and supporters," concluded Mr. Depasquale.
MFA President Dr Joe Mifsud expressed MFA's satisfaction at the positive conclusion of negotiations leading to this agreement. "We are extremely pleased that Bank of Valletta is extending its association with Maltese Football and with MFA's National League in particular."
"Bank of Valletta's efforts in this sporting discipline coincide with the Malta Football Association's efforts to keep developing the local game of football and improving skills all around. The backing that a name like Bank of Valletta gives to different divisions in the National League will continue to raise the profile of this sport locally", concluded Dr Mifsud.
The MFA National League will continue to be officially known as the "BOV National League". The different divisions will be officially referred to as the BOV Premier League, the BOV First Division League, the BOV Second Division League and the BOV Third Division League respectively. The Super Cup Competition will be officially known as the BOV Super Cup.
The popular BOV Player of the Month Competition also will continue to be held since this has now become part of the local football scene and is greatly awaited by all players and supporters alike.
