To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of famous Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, the Societa Filarmonica Leone is presenting the classic opera 'La Boheme', with local soprano Lydia Caruana cast as the principle vocalist. The opera, sponsored by Bank of Valletta will be held on the 11th of October at 7.30pm at the Aurora Opera House in Victoria, Gozo.
The sponsorship was presented to Michael Caruana, president of the Societa Filarmonica Leone by Jack Thewma, manager of BOV's Gozo Branch.
"As the leading patron of local art and culture, Bank of Valletta is glad to participate in events that promote local artistic talent and showcase Gozo as an ideal venue for high calibre cultural events. The outstanding efforts that have been made by the Societa Filarmonica Leone over the years have increased the popularity of such events, and we look forward to yet another successful performance that promises to be a real treat for all opera lovers," said Mr. Thewma.
The Malta Philarmonic Orchestra will be complementing the events of the evening with their own performance. The set will be designed by a local Gozitan artist, while the costumes will be brought over to Malta from Italy.
