BOV’s tree planting campaign to cover all of Gozo and Malta

BOV-trees.jpgThe Bank of Valletta's initiative to plant fifty trees in each locality around Gozo and Malta is gaining momentum. Following the launch, last month, trees have already been planted in four localities in Malta.

The project was launched at Marsa and during the past weeks was extended to Ghaxaq, Vittoriosa and Birzebbugia bringing the total number of new trees planted to 200. It is envisaged that, in total, over 3,000 trees will be planted around all the localities of the Maltese islands under this project.

Ghaxaq

This project entails close collaboration with the 34U Campaign as well as with the individual local councils, responsible for identifying an appropriate area, as well as taking care of its maintenance. The trees being planted include Sandarac Gum, Olive, Carob, Oak and Aleppo Pine, which are all indigenous of the Maltese islands.

Vittoriosa

Speaking about this initiative, Michael Galea, Head at the Office of the CEO at Bank of Valletta explained, "This project, that will leave its mark in every town and village in Malta and Gozo, is being funded under the environment pillar of BOV's community programme. We feel that this initiative underlines the strong affinity that BOV has with the local communities where it operates. We are particularly enthusiastic to see this project progress according to plan especially since, through this initiative, we are making a positive and tangible environmental contribution within our towns and villages".

Mr Galea added that besides financing the trees, the Bank is also inviting branch personnel to participate in the tree planting, thus continuing to promote an environmental consciousness amongst the workforce.
