Bishops issue statement reiterating that abortion is murder

Respect-Life.jpegFollowing the arrival in Malta of the pro-abortion organisation, Women on Waves, the Bishop of Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech and Archbishop Mgr Pawl Cremona have issued a strongly-worded statement, saying that God should be thanked for the gift of life, whilst people have the duty to defend the life of every human, in particular the life of those who are weak and who cannot defend themselves. "God is the Lord of life and no human law or people's will can change this fact," the Bishops said. "Abortion is not a choice. Abortion is murder. Abortion is not a right. Abortion is the denial of a right. Abortion is not good for society. Abortion is the destruction of humans and civil society," they added. "The first and most fundamental human right is the right for life, as who does not have his life anymore cannot enjoy any other right," the Bishops said. The Bishops also said that the Church teaches that human life has to be respected from the very first instant of its existence and thus abortion is morally wrong. The Bishops again urged all Catholics to strive to instil the belief in the framework of Maltese society, as they also appealed for prayers and for the provision of support to those persons who would be thinking about aborting. They also appealed to all medical professionals to carry out their mission in favour of human life and human health, helping people to find healing and not death.
