A total of four schools in Gozo have, in recent months, benefited from projects involving the installation of artificial turf pitches in school grounds. The schools are the Aguis de Soldanis Girls’ Secondary school and the Victoria, Ghajnsielem and Xewkija primary schools.
The artificial turf which was recently installed at the Sir Arturo Mercieca primary school in Victoria and the one currently being set up at the Aguis de Soldanis Girls’ Secondary school in Gozo involve the investment of more than €9,000 by the Ministry for Gozo.
The playground located at the Anton Cassar primary school in Ghajnsielem was financed through the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools earlier last year. Another school which benefited from a similar project is the Rosa Magro Xewkija primary school, where works on the school playground were funded by the locality’s football club in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo. This school is also currently undergoing final modernisation and upgrading works, whilst benefiting from a direct investment of more than €300,000.
Another school which is soon to benefit from an artificial turf playground is the Mons. Giov. Andrea Vella primary school in Zebbug.
These projects are carried out to increase and upgrade the quality of sporting facilities in schools in Gozo and to provide students with added opportunities which encourage participation in sporting events held during the scholastic year.
