The Gaulitanus Choir is extending its Festival of Music, which was due to end today, to include an additional concert on Tuesday.
The extra concert came about after the Russian choir, Male Choral Lyceum, which will be in Malta this coming week, approached the Gozitan choir and made known their interest to be included in this, their first, festival.
The 35-strong all-male choir (including boys) will be singing a varied repertoire of unaccompanied secular music. The concert will therefore be entitled ‘A Cappella Secular Music’, and will include works as varied as folk, jazz, spirituals and Russian and Western European music.
The choir, which will be directed by Sergei Pimenov, has won several international competitions such as the one at the Riva del Garda, Italy in 1996, and the one in Tampere, Finland in 1997. In addition, it performed at the Vatican during the opening ceremony of the 26th World Choir’s Congress in 2004 and again in 2005, following an invitation from the Pope.
Tuesday’s concert will be held at Palazzo Palina, Ta’ Cenc Hotel, Sannat, and will start at 7.30pm. Tickets, at Lm2.50, may be obtained at the door prior to the concert.
