In response to Finance Minister Tonio Fenech's announcement that the government was removing the departure tax as from 1st November 2008, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Prof. Arnold Cassola stated: "This is absolutely preposterous.
The EU Commission has already declared that this tax is an unjust and discriminatory one.
Moreover, the European Parliament Petitons' Committee is at the moment examining five separate complaints on the issue lodged by two Maltese, one Dutchman, an Irishman and the Maltese Travel Agents' association FATTA."
Alternattiva Demokratika says: "Remove it immediately and Now."
