ADCommenting on the results of Saturday’s local council elections, Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party, Chairperson, Dr Harry Vassallo, said “We are satisfied with our performance in these elections: we polled almost 10% of the first count votes in Swieqi and in Attard and we polled 3.6% of the votes cast in Paola, where we contested for the first time this year.

“We are very pleased with our exceptional result in Munxar, where we polled approximately 12% of the first count votes and missed electing our candidate by just 2 votes”, continued Dr Vassallo. “Our average percentage in the seven localities was of approximately 6%, this is in line with our performance in local council elections”.

“We have contested more local council elections in this round than in previous years and we have continued to make significant gains regardless of a significant drop in voter turnout” Dr Vassallo said “This confirms a trend we have noted both in polls and in meeting people in their homes that we are the voice of a significant part of the electorate that feels the need for serious, deeply committed and honest politics ” Dr Vassallo said

“These elections have made it clear that every vote is significant and carries a weighty responsibility. The growing presence of Alternattiva Demokratika only adds to the significance of the vote and the effect of decisions taken by voters” Dr Vassallo said “All those who chose not to vote can now realise that they are the most significant electoral factor and that their support of Alternattiva Demokratika can bring about a profound and permanent change in Maltese politics.” Dr Vassallo said.

Dr Vassallo thanked all the candidates and helpers and had special thanks for those who supported them with their vote in the election. “In the localities where we have acquired a seat on the local council we can set to work at once while in all the other localities contested we have found a very significant support which we will not neglect. We have made a promise to be these voters’ voice in these localities and we intend to keep our promises as we have always done” Dr Vassallo said.
